WHAT IS USUI REIKI?
Reiki works by supporting the body’s natural capacity to return to balance. During a session, the practitioner acts as a conduit for this universal life force energy, allowing it to flow where it is most needed. The recipient does not need to “do” anything — the process is non-invasive, deeply restorative, and guided by the intelligence of the body and energy field itself.
rei
noun
universal, sacred, or spiritual wisdom
ki
noun
life force energy that flows through all living beings
When stress, trauma, illness, or prolonged emotional strain occur, the natural flow of energy in the body can become disrupted or depleted. Reiki helps to gently clear stagnation, calm the nervous system, and restore energetic harmony.
Many people experience Reiki as:
A deep sense of relaxation
Emotional release or clarity
Reduced stress and anxiety
Improved sleep and energy levels
A greater sense of grounding and inner calm
Each session is unique. Some people feel physical sensations such as warmth or tingling, while others experience subtle shifts that unfold over time.
Usui Reiki follows a lineage established by Mikao Usui in Japan and is grounded in principles of mindfulness, compassion, and ethical practice. It does not require belief or faith to be effective and works alongside — not in place of — medical or psychological care.
Reiki is:
Non-diagnostic
Non-manipulative
Safe for all ages
Compatible with other therapies and treatments
Growing up Dominican, I was fortunate to have early exposure to traditional healers and culturally rooted healing practices. From a young age, this planted a natural curiosity in me — not only for the medicine of my own people, but for the traditional healing modalities of cultures across the world.
Over the years, I have been privileged to receive healing treatments from medicine people and practitioners from many different lineages and traditions. These experiences deepened my respect for ancestral wisdom and affirmed my belief that healing is both universal and deeply personal.
In 2012, I received my first Reiki treatment and felt an immediate sense of recognition — a profound alignment with this gentle yet powerful healing art. Over the following years, I regularly attended Reiki healing circles and received individual sessions, witnessing firsthand the positive and lasting impact Reiki had on my life. Through this work, my personal relationships strengthened, my self-awareness deepened, and my capacity for presence and compassion expanded.
In 2014, I felt a clear calling to step into the role of practitioner. Under the guidance of Rev. Lorraine Meyer, HDD, CHt., I formally activated this path and have been practicing Usui Reiki ever since.
I have since had the honour of supporting loved ones, community members, and clients in discovering the benefits of Reiki for themselves. Hearing how people respond to treatment — whether through subtle shifts or profound transformations — continues to motivate me to show up in this work with integrity, humility, and care.
Reiki, for me, is not simply a certification or modality. It is a way of life. It shapes how I move through the world, how I relate to others, and how I hold space. Reiki informs my daily practices, my values, and my approach to healing — both within myself and in service to others.
While all of my offerings work with the body’s innate capacity to heal, each modality engages the healing process in a very different way. Understanding these differences can help you choose the support that best meets you where you are.
Reiki is a subtle, non-invasive, and deeply calming modality. The practitioner does not direct, manipulate, or impose intention onto the body. Instead, Reiki works by allowing universal life force energy to flow where it is most needed, guided by the recipient’s own system.
Reiki is especially supportive for:
Nervous system regulation and deep relaxation
Emotional integration and energetic balance
Stress, burnout, grief, and overwhelm
People who are sensitive, depleted, or recovering
Those who prefer gentle, hands-on or hands-off support
Reiki meets you exactly where you are, without requiring effort, storytelling, or physical exertion. Many people experience it as soothing, grounding, and quietly transformative.
Romiromi is a traditional Māori bodywork practice that works directly with the physical body, fascia, and musculature, while also addressing emotional and energetic holding patterns.
Compared to Reiki, Romiromi is:
More physically intensive
Touch-based and embodied
Actively working through stored tension and trauma
Often cathartic and deeply releasing
Romiromi is ideal when the body itself is asking to be worked with — when pain, stagnation, or heaviness are present at a physical level.
Shamanic healing works in non-ordinary reality and engages ancestral, spiritual, and symbolic layers of healing. This work can involve journeying, ritual, soul retrieval, extraction, and deep psycho-spiritual transformation.
Compared to Reiki, Shamanic Healing is:
Highly intentional and practitioner-led
Spiritually directive and ceremonial
Often intense and initiatory
Best suited for major life transitions, spiritual crises, or deep ancestral work
Shamanic healing tends to move energy decisively, whereas Reiki allows energy to reorganize gently over time.
You don’t need to know exactly what you need — that’s part of the work I hold. If you’re unsure which service is most appropriate, we can explore this together during a complimentary consultation.
Reiki for pets is a non-invasive, hands-on or hands-off energy healing modality that supports the body’s natural ability to restore balance on physical, emotional, and energetic levels. Sessions are guided by the animal’s comfort and consent, allowing them to move freely, rest, or engage as they choose.
Stress, anxiety, or nervousness
Recovery from illness, injury, or surgery
Behavioral changes or emotional distress
Aging-related discomfort or reduced vitality
Transitions such as relocation, loss, or new family dynamics
How sessions work
Reiki for pets can be offered in-person or remotely. Distance Reiki is particularly effective for animals, as energy is not limited by physical space and allows them to remain relaxed in their familiar environment.
During a session, Reiki is offered with respect for the animal’s autonomy. Some animals visibly relax, fall asleep, seek closeness, or show subtle shifts over time—others may integrate the healing quietly and gradually.
Reiki is intended to complement veterinary care, not replace it. It works alongside conventional treatments by supporting the nervous system, easing stress responses, and promoting overall harmony.
Each session is approached with reverence for the animal as a sentient being, honoring their unique spirit, needs, and timing.
Owners are responsible for their pets’ safety and wellbeing during sessions.
Sessions are designed to be gentle and low-risk, but each animal responds uniquely.
By booking a session, clients accept responsibility for their pet’s participation and any outcomes, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all involved.
In my practice, Reiki is offered in a way that honours personal boundaries, consent, and nervous system safety. Sessions may be delivered with light touch, hands hovering above the body, or completely off-body, depending on your comfort.
Reiki can be especially supportive for people who feel overwhelmed, burned out, emotionally tender, or disconnected from their bodies.

Guideline for online appointments - With cooperation we can maximize our online experience if we both:
Ensure that we have a private, quiet, dedicated place for our meeting
Make sure that we have all that we need at our fingertips, for example: notes, books, pad, pen, and water
Reduce distractions where possible; devices irrelevant to the session, members of the household, and any other distractions
Have had a few minutes to prepare ourselves before meeting, so that we are relaxed and focused; no rushed and scattered thoughts
Consider this a normal appointment, the same as if visiting a Physician, Specialist, or other healthcare professional in their office. Consider the norms and extend the same courtesy to me.
